PROJECT TITLE

Soft Stir Issue 03

(2024)

RATIONALE

Whether through sudden spectacle or steady erosion, collision is a foundational force in the formation of our earth’s geology. This concept was the bedrock for the design direction of this issue. On the book-ends and edges of pages throughout, you’ll find collages of shells, roots, rock, magma, lightning, galaxies merging, and cells forming – cycles of destruction and creation recurring in the natural world. These collages form a grounding motif throughout the pages that otherwise expand out into colliding chaos, each story having its own tone and style captured through expressive typography, use of colour (or not), texture, layout, and graphics – layers of stories accreting with layers of design.

To add another layer, Studio MIMU, Monica Lasuardi, Harrison Cromarty, and Mia Mont were invited as guest designers to interpret the theme and content through their own voices, collaborating to build a colliding visual cacophony befitting ‘Stories of Collision.’

CATEGORY

I’m a multi-disciplinary designer, specialising in creative direction, publications and brand identity based on Gadigal land, Sydney, Australia. With six years of experience in the industry, servicing organisations in the arts, culture and music industries, my work spans print and digital with an editorial approach. I collaborate with clients, institutions and fellow creatives to make thoughtful work that is grounded in conceptual objectives.

I’ve dedicated the past three years to building an independent brand and publication, Soft Stir, a platform for talented emerging creatives to explore art, culture, music and philosophies through the lens of their practice. In my role as creative director, I lead the vision of the project, while performing duties in print design, editorial, production, event curation and more.

All my work is informed by ongoing design research, an interest in new independent type design and an ever-evolving book collection.

Please feel free to get in touch if you’d like to collaborate.

I acknowledge the Gadigal people, the traditional custodians of the unceded lands on which I work and live. I acknowledge their continuous connection to Country, water and skies, celebrating their rich and enduring knowledge, stories and creativity. I pay my respects to Elders past, present, and emerging.

Always was, always will be Aboriginal land.
